PEARL POACHING
PATROL TO BE STRENGTHENED OUTCOME OF INQUIRY THURSDAY ISLAND, June 18. The Minister of Customs (Air T. W. White), who has been investigating reports of pearl poaching in Northern Australia, said that as the result of his investigations a larger patrol boat would be built to protect North Queensland from poachers. In the meantime the Customs Department in Queensland has been instructed to charter a seaplane or a launch whenever necessary to apprehend a poaching sampan. If the vessel is found to bo breaking the Queensland or Federal laws it will be arrested and heavy penalties imposed.
