The Waitati Institute met on Tuesday, Mrs Ferguson presiding. The motto was "He who receives.a good turn should never forget it, but he who does one should never remember it." The roll call was "Why I joined the institute. The competition, " Best collection for bay at Winter Show," was won by Mrs W'ley. with Mrs R. Clark second. A demonstxation on "Woollen flowers" was eiven by Mis Briscoe, who was accorded a vote of thanks by acclamation. Hostesses were Mesdames Blacklaws, sen., Beatty, and Webber. * * *

Mrs J. Smith presided at the meeting of the Pukekoina Institute in the Hillend Hall last Thursday afternoon. The motto "was " Truth, not eloquence, is sought," and the roll call "Riddles." In the competition for "Best ginger bread." Mrs G. Cochrane received first, with Mrs .1. James second, and Mrs J. Smith third, and the prize winners for " Something made from two handkerchiefs." were Mrs G. Cochrane and Miss M. Hallum fust (equal). A demonstration on ' Sya kart work" was given by Miss M. Hallum Mrs E. Little was hostess.

The June meetinc of the Waipiata Institute wn« held in the hall on Thursday, Mrs F. Roberts presiding. The roll call wa s " The most annoying noise in the early morning." The motto was "Do unto others as you would have them do to you." The competition. "A knitted bed jacket." was won by Mrs Kirby. with Mrs F. Mathias second. For (Into loaf Mm F. At the meeting of the Palmerston Institute on Thursday evening, at which Mrs Swanson, vice-president, presided, regret was expressed at the indisposition of the president (Mrs Korner) and good wishes for a speedy recovery. Members observed one nrnute silence as a token of sympathy with Mrs Turner in her bereavement. The competition, "Knitted hot-water bag cover," was won by Miss Hitchcock, Miss Gibb second, and Mrs Gordon third. Miss Brcnda Bell, of Shag Valley, who recently toured Europe, gave a lantern lecture on her travels. At the conclusion, on the motion of Mrs Forrest, a hearty vote of thanks was accorded Miss Bell. Hostesses were Mesdames Burrows, Deunison, and Fastier and Misses Diack and Hitchcock.

The Janefield Institute met in the Mill Hall on June 10. It was "Members' Day," the meeting being conducted by the members, with Mrs Sproule in the chair, supported by Miss M. Graham (secretary) and Mrs Cassells (treasurer). The motto was " That we here iuay garner wisdom, and fresh inspiration find, knit the ties'of friendship closer, casting all mistakes behind." The hostesses were Mesdames Henderson and Johnstone and Miss Ivrkwood. Miss Anderson, of Lovell's Flat, gave a descriptive address on her travels from New Zealand to the South Sea Islands, thence across Canada, en route to England. On the motion of Mrs F. G. Pond the speaker was thanked for her address.
