TUAPEKA COLLIE CLUB
SUCCESSFUL TRIALS The annual trials of the Tuapeka Collie Dog Club were held on the property of Mr H. Winter at Lawrence yesterday and on Wednesday, and proved to be one of the most successful meetings for some years. Only once previously lias the number of entries exceeded this year's total, and the officials found it impossible to get the events off within the scheduled time. Besides an excellent number _of competitors from inside the local radius, there were owners present from Oamaru, Palmerslon, Lauder, Island Block, Heriot, Kelso, Otautau. Nightcaps, Winton, Mossburn, and . Balelutha. Yesterday the weather was bright and sunny, with no wind, but on Wednesday cold and boisterous conditions prevailed and intermittent rain showers swept the ground. In the heading events, the outstanding dog was Mr H. Cuttance's Kelp, which gained first prize in both maiden and local events, and third place in the open head. The maiden and open huntaway events were not completed yesterday and the meeting will be continued to-day, when a consolation event will also be competed for.
The judge is Mr J, M. Rose (Waitahuna) and the sheep are loaned by Messrs A. D. Crawford and Sons (Beaumont). The meeting is being controlled by the president of the club (Mr E, B. Paterson) and the secretary (Mr J. Colgan). The following are the results of the two days:— MAIDEN HEADING EVENT. Short head, pull, and hold in ring; about 400 yards. Points: Outrun 20, lift 3, pul) 20, command 14, ring 3; —total, 00. Time, lOmin. Prizes: First £3, second £2. third £l. H. Cuttance's (Glenore) Kelp, 18, IJ, • 14, 11. 2i—47 points 1 W. J. Bulfin's (Konoui) Roy, 17, 3, 14, 11, 1—46 points 2 G. P. Johnston's (Oamaru) Don, 16, IJ, 16, 11, I—45J points 3 LOCAL HEADING EVENT.
Prizes: First £2, second £l, third 10s. H. Cuttance's Kelp, 47 points .... 1 W. J. Bulfin's Roy, 46 points 2 J. M'Neilly's (Lawrence) Rag, 14. i, 14, 9, I—3SJ1 —3SJ points 3
These two events were run in conjunction, H. Cuttance and W. J. Bulfin gaining first and second prizes respectively in each event with the same dogs. There were 32 entries.
