No definite information on the prospects of the lifting of the Australian potato embargo is yet available, according to a telegram received from the Minister of Agriculture (Mr W. Lee Martin) by the Waimate Farmers’ Union. The Minister’s telegram read: “ Regret unable furnish desired information regarding export potatoes Australia, as this and other matters concerning trade relations with that country have yet to be completed.” The Farmers’ Union at its last meeting decided to request information on the potato embargo negotiations, as it was considered by members that it was detrimental to the interests of farmers to be held in suspense from season to season.
