Welcome Social

A very successful welcome home social was given by the congregation of the Presbyterian Church to the Rev. H. H. Barton and Mrs Barton on Tuesday night on their return after visiting the Maori missionary stations in the North Island and elsewhere. Speeches were given by leading officials of the church, who welcomed their minister and also paid a tribute to the able and conscientious maimer in which the Rev. J. J. Bates and Mrs Bates supervised the work of the parish during the moderator’s three months’ absence. Mr Barton, in replying, gave a short, interesting review of their experiences and travels. Mr Bates expressed appreciation of the many token of goodwill extended to himself and Mrs Bates, and spoke in glowing terms of the respect and the ministerial qualifications in which their minister was held by the Clutha Presbytery and the General Assembly of New Zealand. A fine musical programme wag rendered by local artists.
