LATE DOORS

TO THE EDITOR Sin, —Can you say what is the interpretation given by theatrical companies to the terms " early " and " late doors " ? There was a time when reputable firms made a practice of finishing the early door imposition at 7.30 p.m. Last night at 7.55 I asked for two stalls tickets at the ticket office of the "White Horse Inn" production, and a demand of the early-door price was made, On asking the young lady at what time late doors began I was told she was not then selling any. Being one of a fairly large class of people who object to being "had," and being somewhat stiff-necked, I departed with my undesired 8s and tax and spent an enjoyable evening more cheaply at a picture show. What value, in view of my experience, is the advertisement in your issue this morning that 400 tickets at 2s 6d, 4s, and 5s will be sold at the doors? I certainly shall not again risk similar treatment. —I am, etc., March 19. Curt. . [The manager of the "White Horse Inn" company, to whom the complaint was referred, says that as 47 late-door stall tickets were on sale at 7.55 on Tuesday and seats at this price were available up to 8.30 he feels sure that the correspondent has made a mistake with respect to the time mentioned by him. The company, it was stated, endeavoured at all times to study the public, and on account of the great success of the " White Horse Inn," patrous were advised to secure their tickets during the day.— Ed.
