"SHE STOOPS TO CONQUER"

EIGHTEENTH CENTURY COSTUME PLAY The Little Theatre Society is bringing to local lovers of the drama Oliver Goldsmith's five-act costume comedy, " She Stoops to Conquer." What now stands as the second title, "The Mistakes of a Night." was originally the only one; but it was thought undignified for a comedy. It was first produced in March, 1773, and, contrary to general expectations, proved a brilliant triumph for its author. The verdict of that first night audience has many times been confirmed since, and " She Stoops to Conquer " still holds the highest place among eighteenth century comedies in the estimation of modern playgoers the world over. The piny is cleverly written and appeals as much to-day as it did on the first eventful night 10u years ago. There is no anxious stillness, but a brisk, free conversation, full of point that is not too formal, and yet conveying all the information that has usually to be put into a first scene. Throughout the five acts there is brisk movement and life. There will be four performances, three evenings and one matinee, from Thursday to Saturday, March 26 to 28. The Little Theatre is the location of the presentation of "She Stoops to Conquer," the box plan details of which ore advised.
