Bryce returned to Auckland from Wellington he brought the South Island pacer Norrie Rock with him in addition to Dilfashion and Gala Day, who both failed to produce their best form at Hutt Park, where Norrie Rock also raced unsuccessfully. Norrie Rock, who has been purchased by an Auckland owner, is a five-year-old gelding, by Guy Parrish from a Lee Norris mare. He has not done very much racing, but in four starts last season won twice, annexing a double at the Otago Hunt Club meeting on a heavy track-

Doing Light Work W. Willetts is not doing much with Travis at present, as lie will not be required to race for a couple of months. Travis was u fairly performer when trained at Tukauini by F. J. Smith, and gained two wins and was several times in a place, Travis is not a good stayer, but over short distances he will always have to be respected.

Enjoying a Spell The promising four-year-old,Proletarian is at present enjoying a short spell, but he will be brought in again shortly with a view to racing at the Auckland hxtuie in June. Proletarian was well supported in both of his races at Epsom last mouth, but did not receive any the best of the running, especially on the second Jay. However, he is a speedy customer, who soulcl be worth following in his next tew starts.

The Wyndham Cup Pot Luck’s spectacular performance in winning the Seadown Handicap from 30 yards behind will gain him many friends for the Wyndham Trotting Club Handicap to-day. He began nicely, and alter waiting on the field for seven turlongs fie proceeded to overhaul them. He was on terms with the leaders at the mile and a-quarter post, .and from there on he took the lead and won with his driver sitting still.

Application of Penalties The reason why Francis Lincoln was let off with a 12 yards penalty for winning u 4.32 two miles race at Wellington, when horses in Auckland have received a similar penalty for running second, and why Lynworthy was penalised 12 yards for two successive seconds in spite of Mr H. F. Nicoll’s assurance that horses are penalised only for the first of tw r o succeeding seconds, forms the subject of a further inquiry into the application ot penalties under the present handicapping system, by the Auckland Owners and Trainers’ Association (says the Auckland Herald). The Handicapping Committee is also being asked to explain the reason of Ironside, who won twice at Christmas, escaping a penalty when beaten by halt a head at Epsom last month.
