WEST TAIERI CHURCH

ANNIVERSARY SERVICES The West Taieri Church will Iwld jubilee services at Easter on the occasion of the seventy-fifth anniversary of the charge and the seventieth of the opening of the present building. Descendants of the pioneers who founded the church are now scattered oyer the world, but a large number are still in the district. The West Taieri Church has the distinction of being the oldest church on the Taieri Plain. The charge is an offshoot of the East Taieri Church having been established in the days ot the Rev. William Will, when services were first held in Lee’s woolshed at Woodside. A wooden church served for four years, near the site of the present building. In the course of time the Maungatua and Outran! churches were built, the latter, however, in comparatively recent years. West Taieri boys are represented in the ministry of the church in New Zealand in the persons of the Revs. Mr Begg (Wanganui), A. D. Kirkland (Mayfield), Thomson (Remuera), Dow (Gisborne), and T. G. Campbell (Waikaka). The celebrations will take the following form:—On Easter Saturday (April 11°) a reunion will be held at the church, when a short service of 15 minutes will be hold and a welcome extended. Hus will bo followed by a garden party in the church and manse grounds. The Outram Band will be in attendance. The children are being catered for in various amusements* In the evening there will be a social. On Easter Sunday there will be special services. On Monday evening a banquet will be held in th» Oddfellows’ Hall.
