CHARITABLE AID

TO THE EDITOR Sir, — I hope that when Dr Newdands brings his heavy artillery to bear at the Hospital Board’s meeting it will be open to the press and not behind closed doors, as veiy little filters through to the press from these committee meetings. Of course, wo know that sometimes the Charitable Aid Board is “ had ” by people, but why should the innocent suffer for the guilty? And as for your correspondent “Anti-Bunkum,” I don’t think he ever has had the misfortune to go to the board for help. It is a pity we have not more men on the board like Mr Jones and Mr Silverstone, who have tried to do their best to help the unfortunate. I hope that “Anti-Bunkum ” read in Saturday’s Daily Times the report of the visit of our King tc the slums of Glasgow. Then he can talk of God-fearing men. Our late Prime Minister, Mr Coates, said that if anyone was starving let him go to the charitable aid boards. All I can say is, God help him! —I am. etc., No Bunkum. Wakari, March 7. [We do not think that Mr Coates made any statement such as attributed to him in the above letter. — Ed., O.D.T.]
