The Banks Peninsula Racing Club was favoured with perfect conditions for its meeting, and there was a large attendance. The course, never particularly fast, was decidedly dead after the recent ram, but there was some good racing. As usual, some of the novices failed to go out well in the Juvenile Stakes. Pink Pollv was the early leader from Gay Lyric, Nuipai, Emmeline Girl, and Sir Hugh, while alter a furlong Culotte, Universe, and Impersonator joined in at the tail of the leaders, the others being strung out. Gay Lyric and Pink Polly led Emmeline Girl to the straight, where the last-named drew out to win decisively. Impersonator, after running wide at the home turn, finished very fast and cut Pink Polly out of second place. Sir Hugh, Gay Lyric, Culotte, Nuipai, and Radio Star were in a bunch at the head of the others, the remainder being well back. The winner is a promising filly, of Australian parentage, being by the Melbourne Cup winner Backwood from Humorada, by Comedy King. The favourite, Impersonator, was very unlucky. Some of the others, including Sir Hugh. Nuipai, and Radio Star, will improve. Sky Pilot, a decided favourite for the High-weight Handicap, ran a poor race, and apparently did not handle the dead going. Execution soon headed Horotiu, while Honour's Lass moved up to divide this pair at the home turn. There was no further change, Execution winning easily, wliile Honour's Lass stalled off Horotiu narrowly. Madge's Coin was next. The winner won a race early in her career when trained by F. D. Jones, but she had been off the scene for a long time. She is a well-bred mare, by Shambles from Sopra, so she comes from the family that produced Autopay, Reonui. Rebel Song, and Concert Pitch. Happy Bird was in front all the way in the Wairewa Trot, and won by half a length from King's Drive, who was always in the front bunch. Bill Grattan finished strongly to be third, as did Windsor Lass, who headed the others. Shrewdy moved up to second at the home turn, but failed to stay. Peter Silk, a hot favourite, failed to begin. The Peninsula Cup was an even betting race and an interesting contest. i 1 air Weather set the pace from Greek Shepherd and Riptide, with Tunneller aud Argentic next, Tout le Monde being last. Fair Weather was done at the end of-a mile, Greek Shepherd leading to the straight, to collapse a furlong from the post, where Tunneller headed him, with Riptide handy. Then Argentic put in a run, but failed to reach Tunneller by a neck. Riptide was a length back, then a length gap to Tout le Monde, who beat Greek Shepherd by a head, Fair Weather being last. Tunneller's performance was even better than the Midsummer Handicap. He keeps on improving steadily. Argentic finished with a great rattle, but his failure to get going early is always a handicap; Riptide ran a good race, with none the best of the luck. Tout le Monde was staying on. Greek Shepherd disappointed his admirers, but it was a big task for a three-year-old on a holding track. Fair Weather failed to stay. Sovereign Lady was chopped out at the start of the Ahuriri Hack Handicap and did well to finish close up to the placed horses. Concert Pitch led out from Colombo - and Tooley Street, while Princess Rawene and Impossible were handy after three furlongs. Tooley Sticet

followed Concert Pitch to the straight, but the favourite won easily. Colombo came on to head Tooley Street, who made another late run to gain second money. Impossible, Roaming, Princess Rawene, and Sovereign Lady were close up. Concert Pitch has now won three races on end, and he is on the way to good, open company, as he is a brilliant galloper. Tooley Street will win soon. Impossible is another to keep in mind. Cranford, a hot win favourite, outclassed the opposition in the closing stages of the Kinloch Handicap, after being fourth in the early stages. It was an attractive effort, and be should race well at Trentham. Arena wa s in front for three furlongs, when Dollar Bill replaced him, both retiring in the straight. Capital was always handy and finished well in second place, followed by Cheap Money, who was running on. Final Shot was another who finished strongly, a fine performance for her first start after a long spe'l. Horarata was not far away, but her form this season has not been good. Great Star showed up for half a mile, but Horowhenua, Rebel Chief, and Orris were never in the picture. Boltaine was the early leader in the Waihora Park Trot, but Glorietta headed him after half a mile, Hermes. Alpine Prince, Carrageen, and Wheat Pool being handy. Glorietta had a lead of half a dozen lengths alone: the back, where Our War and Moana Tama were closing up. Our War caught Glorietta a furlong from the post and won by a length, Moana Tama finishing fast, half a length back. Carrageen, Crinsh, Alpine Prince, and Boltaine were close up. Our War was staying on, though Moana Tama was doing best in the last few strides. Big Nelson went off unsteadily and broke badly at the end of six furlongs. Horotiu and Nocturnus were the early leaders in the Forsyth Hack Handicap, Free Rose and Dark Rose following them along the back, with a gap to Ponty and Sisterina. Nearing the straight Nocturnus and Dark Rose dropped out. I'ree Rose led Horotiu to the straight, where Ponty came on with a strong run to win easily, while Silver Jest, with a late challenge, cut Free Rose out of second place. Horotiu tired to fourth, three lengths back, with Sisterina close up. The winner, trained in the trotting stable of M. B. Edwards, is a speedy Rosenor gelding, who is on the way to better deeds. Silver Jest ran a good race, while Free Rose is worth keeping in mind.
