GAELIC SOCIETY OF NEW ZEALAND

MONTHLY MEETING The ordinary monthly. meeting of the Gaelic Society of New Zealand (Incorporated) was held last evening in the Returned Soldiers' Association Clubrooms. Punctually at 8 o'clock Piper Kenneth Cameron led Chief W. Keith Cameron, Chieftains Kenneth Macdonald, Robert M'Lean, Colin Macdonald, William H. M'Leod, and Past Chief A. M'Lachlan to the platform. Before commencing the musical programme the chief called upon the audience to stand in silence as a tribute to the memory of Misa A. Macpherson, sister to the late Chief Dougal Macpherson, and Piper K. Cameron played " The Flowers of the Forest." The chief welcomed to the meeting Captain John Robertson, of the Oakbank, and invited him to a seat on the platform. The chief congratulated Miss Pat. Atkinson and Miss Norma Marshall on the honours they had carried off during the festive season, and made mention of the signal success of Piper Peter Davidson, competing in Sydney, as reported in recent cables from Australia.

A highly artistic rendering was given of all the items on the programme, and encores were demanded of all the performers. The following contributed:— The choir, under the baton of Choirmaster R. Scott and Miss A. Kennedy accompanist; Gaelic songs, "Eilean a' Cheo" and " Ghruagach Dhonn"; Miss Jessie Brown, sword dance; Miss Milh> Shrimpton, songs. "Ho-ro My Nut-brown Maiden" and "The Little Old Garden"; Mr John Gallaway, songs, " Gae, bring to me a Pint of Wine" and "Friend o' Mine"; Misses N. Marshall and L. Barclay, dance, Fling; Miss Margaret Murray, songs, "The Road to the Isles" and " Bonnie Wee Thing "; Misses Beissel and Noeline Plank, sailor's hornpipe; Miss Alison Tyrie, songs, "Gala Water" and "The Auld Scotch Sangs"; Piper Allan State, a selection on the national instrument; tbc choir, Gaelic songs, "A Fhleaagaieh an fhuilt chraobhaich chais ' and "Mo Run Geal dileas"; Miss P. Clare, songs. "Hail Caledonia" and "Theres NTae Luck About the House" Miss Macdonald, songs, " There Was a Lad was Born in Kyle" and "My Am Folk ; Misg Pat. Atkinson, dance, Sean Mr S. M'Vieker, songs, "Annie Laurie and another; Miss Edith Clare, songs, " John Anderson, My Jo " and " The Wee Cooper of Fyfe"; Mr MlCee, humorous songs, "So Early in the Morning" and " Bob Down. You're Spotted "; Chieftain Hard A. M'Lennan, Gaelic songs. " Eilean Mullach" and "An t'alltan <*ubh." Misses Mavis Beissel. Noeline Plank, Norman Marshall, and Jack Miller, Miss George, Misses Phyllis and Edith Clare plaved the accompaniments. Piper Milne, of Kaitangata, played for the national dancing, and Mr Alex. M-Kenzie was M.C. to the dance following the programme. '
