MANY HAPPY RETURNS

THE JOHNSON QUADRUPLETS GREETINGS ON FIRST BIRTHDAY Evidence that interest in Dunedin's now famous quadruplets is Dominionwide was forthcoming yesterday, when their parents were the recipients of upwards of 100 telegrams from all over Now Zealand, wishing the children happiness on their first birthday, and the traditional many happy returns. Friends in Dunedin, and many others who were interested in the welfare of the babies, preferred to convey their wishes verbally, and throughout the day the home of Mr and Mrs Johnson at Cavcrsham was literally besieged by visitors. The least concerned of all about the great event appeared to be the famous four themselves, who, when a Daily Times reporter paid them a visit yesterday afternoon, seemed more interested in a meal which was being prepared for" them than in any mere birthday and its attendant congratulations. Their nursery resembled, more than anything else, n well-stocked toy shop, and it was apparent that not a few of the babies' wcllwishers bad expressed their congratulations in a tangible form. A miniature farmyard with all manner of weird animals was the gift of the " Smith Family" of Wellington, and from the Bruce Woollen Mills came four cosy cot blankets. These were the outstanding gifts among a wonderful collection of teddy bears, dolls, and toys of every description. Dominating everything, however, was a magnificent birthday cake, but when tbiu Is to be cut is as yet uncertain.
