WEST HARBOUR BOROUGH

Robb, G. F. Rodger, J. M. Kay, and F. H. Hudson. CORRESPONDENCE. The Valuer-general advised that it was probable that the Valuation Department would undertake the revaluation of West Harbour Borough on March 31, 1937. —Cr Venn said that the council had applied for a revaluation of the borough last September, and he thought it should not let the matter rest there. He moved that it be referred to the Finance Committee for further consideration.—Cr Robb seconded the motion.—Cr Rodger said the borough should be revalued, immediately. The borough was very much over-valued, and in excess of either Port Chalmers and Green Island.—The motion was carried. A letter expressing appreciation of the services of those connected with the firefighting arrangements in the borough at the fire which partly destroyed his house at Ravensbourne in October was .received from Mr A. H. Dowall. He forwarded a cheque for £2 2s to be used by the council as it thought fit. The writer mentioned in his letter that many possessions of sentimental value were salvaged os a result of the assistance rendered by residents.—The Mayor said it was very pleasing to receive such a letter, and the council greatly appreciated Mr Dowall’e action.—Cr Venn said Mr E. T. Monk was mainly responsible for the good work carried out at the fire.—lt was decided that the £2 2s be paid into the Mayor’s Relief Fund, and that Mr Dowall be thanked for his gift. In regard to a complaint received respecting the recent delay to the 11 p.m. bug from Dunedin, the Railways Department advised that it was the desire of the motor transport office to give regular and satisfactory sexwices at all times. The delay referred to would not be repeated in future.

It was reported that the tender of the New Zealand Highway Constructors, Ltd., for £826 13s sd, for sealing a portion of the Dunedin-Port Chalmers highway, had been recommended by the Main Highways Board for acceptance.
