FIRE AT WAIPUKURAU
TWO SHOPS DAMAGED (Per United Press Association) WAIPUKURAU, January 13. An outbreak of fire, quickly extinguished by the brigade, occurred at 6.45 yesterday when considerable damage resulted to the stock of Messrs L. Hawke and ”Co., electricians, radio and music dealers. There was also a small loss in Mr E. C. Woodward’s pharmacy adjoining. The building, which was owned by Mr A. E. Jull, was only slightly damaged. The cause possibly was a dropped cigarette butt. The stock, plant and office furniture of Messrs Hawke and Co. were insured for £957, Mr Woodward was covered by the Mutual Insurance Office, and Mr Jiill by the National. A dwelling owned and occupied by R. M'Nabb, at Takapau, was totally destroyed by fire during the week-end.
