THROWN FROM MOTOR CYCLE INJURIES PROVE FATAL, ■ (Pee United Press Association; NEW PLYMOUTH, January 13. Internal injuries which proved fatal within a few minutes were suffered by Iris Marjorie Morris, aged 21, when she fell from a motor cycle on which she was riding pillion last night. The cycle, which was ridden by Bernard Carr, of Opunake, skidded on the wet road, and, although Carr was able to keep his seat, his companion fell. BODY FOUND IN HARBOUR (Per United Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, January 13. The body of Owen Sherwood, aged 21, second-refrigerating engineer on the Port Adelaide, was found floating in the harbour this morning, Sherwood went swimming on Thursday morning, and failed to answer the roll when the vessel departed at mid-day. A search resulted in his clothes being found on the beach. Sheiwood was a native of Yorkshire. DEATH FROM BULLET WOUND (Per United Press Association; PAHIATUA, January 13. A 10-year-old secondary schoolboy, James Barraclough, was found dead at 10 o’clock last night in a bedroom at his parents’ house with a bullet wound in his chest. A small-bore rifle was found alongside the deceased, who had jilst returned from a holiday tour with an elder brother. BODY RECOVERED FROM HARBOUR (Per United Press Association) WELLINGTON, January 13. The body of Thomas Duggan, aged 40, an Irishman employed by the Wellington Harbour Board, who jumped into the harbour from Aotea quay on January 5. was recovered this morning north of the Pipitea wharf. FALL BENEATH TRUCK ONE LEG PRACTICALLY SEVERED. (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, January 13. Slipping on part of a cattle stop made greasy by the misty rain, Patrick O’Callaghan', a railway employee at the Springfield railway station, fell.in front of a number of trucks widen were being shunted in the yard this evening, and the wheels of one truck passed over one of his legs just below the knee and practically severed it. O’Callaghan had been riding one of the trucks while shunting, and slipped off on to .the board alongside the cattle stop. He failed to gain a foothold, and fell, one leg crossing the Track. O’Callaghan, after receiving medical attention on the spot, was brought to the Christchurch Hospital.

MINE WORKER FATALLY INJURED

(Per United Press Association; INVERCARGILL, January 13. A fatal accident occurred this morning at the Linton Coal Mine. A full box of coal ran over the jig-head and severely crushed John M'Leod, a married man, aged 60 years, who suffered a fracture of the right thigh and several broken ribs. He was conveyed in an ambulance from Ohai to the Southland Hospital, but died at 5- o’clock. FATALITY AT OWAKA WOMAN THROWN FROM MOTOR CYCLE. . (From Our Own Correspondent) BALCLUTHA, January 13. A fatal motor accident occurred on the OwakiP Valley road on Wednesday night when Mrs A. D. Woodrow, aged 44 years, received injuries which resulted in her death in the Owaka Hospital the following day. At the inquest which was held at Owaka before Mr T. Barr, J.P., on Friday a verdict of accidental death was returned. The evidence showed that Mrs Woodrow was returning from Owaka at 11.30 at night on the pillion seat of a motor cycle ridden by her son, D. J. Woodrow, aged 19. When they were about three miles and a-half from Owaka, a cow jumped on to the road from a bank on the left-hand side, landing in front of the cycle. The rider was unable to avoid the animal, and the impact caused Mrs Woodrow to be thrown over her son. She landed on her head on the road, and suffered a fracture of the skull and other serious injuries. She died the following afternoon without having regained consciousness.

The son had his left thigh injured, but not seriously.
