NAPIER WOOL SALE

A HEAVY CLEARANCE PRICES SHOW AN INCREASE (Pek United Press Association) NAPIER, December 2. A 25 per cent, increase in wool prices was recorded at the first wool sale of the season in Hawke’s Bay to-day when a comparison is made with the opening sale of last season. Values were also fully firm to better compared with those secured at the Auckland sale last week. It is estimated that aproximately half the offering of 20,605 bales constituted held-over wool, which opened up in good condition. This season’s wool, which was among the lots offered, was reported to be the best for many seasons past. Both the old and new wool was sought after keenly by a full bench of buyers. As was anticipated after the result of the Auckland sale a general all-over increase in values as compared with last season was realised, and compared with the corresponding sale last season fleece wool was up 2d to coarser grades being eagerly sought after and selling well. Skirtings experienced similar increases. Grutchings were 2ld better . and locks ltd. v Competition came from all quarters, the Continent being particularly active. Heavy clearances were recorded, brokers reporting up to a 96 per cent, clearance. The following is the official range of prices:—
