DANGERS OF THE ROAD
POSITION IN BRITAIN (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, November 29. (Received Dec. 1, at 5.5 p.m.) The particularly heavy death roll on the roads during the last two weeks was the subject of a broadcast address by Major Hore-Belisha. During the fortnight one person died or was injured every hour in road accidents. On the other hand, the figures for 37 weeks of the current year showed a reduction of 11,530 in the number killed and injured, compared with the corresponding period last year. The Transport Minister said he was convinced that precautions and propaganda were making an impression and the public had grown traffic-conscious and were giving most sympathetic understanding to the measures undertaken by the Government for the saving of life on the roads.
