M.C.C. TEAM IN BRISBANE SIX WICKETS FOR 436 BRISBANE, December 1. (Received Dec. 1, at 10 p.m.) The M.C.C. batsmen gave 5700 people delightful entertainment with free batting, taking complete command of the Queensland attack and compiling the biggest score of the tour. The opening batsmen put on 204, Smith scoring the side’s first century. Holmes and Human were also associated in a century partnership. Human’s innings was especially a treat. He displayed correctness and brightness, with beautifully executed shots to all parts of the field. The Queensland captain tried 10 bowlers. Sensational incidents followed the breaking of the opening partnership, three other wickets falling in 10 minutes for tile addition of 15, but Holmes and Human soon had control again. (Received Dec. 1, at 10 p.m.) In the match against Western Provinces Grimmett and FleetwoodSmith extracted the maximum assistance from a slow wicket. The crowd was greatly amused at the batsmen’s efforts to keep the ball away from the wicket. Flectwood-Smith appeared to turn more viciously that Grimmett, sometimes pitching the ball fully two feet outside the wickets and coming in sharply. Georgen displayed plenty of aggressiveness and neat footwork, scoring all round the wicket with refreshing ease .till he failed properly to get hold of a ball from Fleetwood-Smith. The Provinces’ innings lasted 194 minutes. The Australian fielding was greatly improved. Brown played a delightful innings, always accurate and aggressive, but ultimately he was enticed to hit out at a curling ball from Robertson. Ho leaped far out and failed to connect.
