DRILLING OF TEETH
A PAINLESS PROCESS AMERICAN DISCOVERY (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) NEW YORK, November 29. (Received Nov. 29, at 10 p.m.) The discovery of a substance which makes the dentist’s drill a painless instrument, something millions of persons the world over have been hoping for, was announced here to-day by the Columbia University school of dental surgery. “ The descnsitiser will revolutionise the practice of dentistry,” and when applied to the surface of a tooth not only prevents pain “but offers the possibility of saving teeth now lost through extraction.” The discovery is the work of Dr Leroy Hartmann, professor of dentistry, and the patent rights will be held by the university in order to prevent exploitation against the public’s interests. The product will be made available commercially in the near future. The desensitiser has no after effects and becomes effective in 60 seconds to 90 seconds after application and remains effective for from 20 minutes to 60 minutes.
