DISORDERS IN EGYPT
SUDDEN ABATEMENT MANIFESTOS ISSUED CAIRO, November 28. The sudden abatement of the antiBritish disorder in Egypt appears to be due to the Wafd’s inability to organise a united front against the Government. The Liberal leader, Pasha Mahmud, issued a manifesto inviting acceptance of the 1930 draft treaty as a basis of independence. The Wafd issued a counter-manifesto, which insisted on the restoration of the 1923 Constitution. In' face of this disagreement, the Wafd is believed to have decided, while ostensibly condemning Nessim Pasha’s’ (the Premier) co-operation with Britain, secretly to facilitate his retention in office in preference to someone else less friendly towards the Wafd.
