LINER QUEEN MARY
LIGHTING OF THE BOILERS (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, November 20. (Received Nov. 28, at 5.5 p.m.)* The lighting of the 24 boilers of the Cunard-White Star liner Queen Mary, which sails on her maiden voyage on May 27, is expected to begin next week, when steam will be raised and the uncoupled engines turned over very quietly for the first time. Then the 25-ton propellers will be coupled up and revolved at gentle speed. The horsepower of the engines will not be revealed until the trials in March, but it is understood it will considerably exceed that of the Normandie—namely, 164,000.
