AMATEUR SWIMMING

OTAGO CENTRE MEETING The weekly meeting of the Otago Swimming Centre was held last night and was attended by Messrs W. A. Jenkins (president), E. H. James, D. I. Woodfield, A. Findlny, E, Sonntng, J. O'Byrnes, W. Williams, D. C. Bannatyne, J. M'Taggart, B. Kerr, D. Thomson, E. C. Isaacs, C. J. Leeden, and I. L. Turnbull. CLUB RETURNS. The secretary reported having received the following returns of membership from the various clubs:—Duncdin. 220; Kai-' korai. 134; Zenith. 120; University, 70; St. Clair, 63; St. Kilda, 31; Kiwi, 302. These returns showed an aggregate of 040 swimmers attached to the city clubs, but the figures from the Alexandra, Buiclutha, Toko, Roxburgh and Cromwell Clubs had yet to come, and these would bring the total of active swimmers up to over 2000.—The report was received. CHAMPIONSHIP COMMITTEES. The Property Committee submitted a report on the arrangements made for seating at the Municipal Baths during the championship rceting, the report being approved. The Entertainment Committee sub' mitted proposals for the entertainment of the visiting swimmers. Arrangements had been made for visits to various manufactories in, the city and for drives around Dunedin, and the management of three of the local picturo theatres had extended invitations to the visitors to be present at their performances on the two free evenings during the meeting. The committee recommended that should the Governor-General be in Dunedin during the championship meeting, he be asked to open the carnival—The report was adopted. The Programme and Publicity Committees presented a number of recommendations regarding the printing and sale of programmes, the broadcasting of the principal events, and advertising.— The recommendations were adopted. GENERAL. . A letter was received from Mrs R. H. Gordon offering to present championship sashes for the winners of the Otago arid New Zealand ladies' diving championships, and the national men's diving championship.—lt was decided to accept the offer with thanks. A letter was received from the secretary of the Balclutha Club advising that the club would hold its opening ceremony on Saturday, December 7, and requesting the centre to assist by arranging for a team of swimmers from Dunedin to appear.—lt was decided to accede to the request. The application of the Oamaru Club for permission to hold its annual carnival on December 10 was granted, and tba programme of events approved. It was decided to ik the various clubs to provide distinctive caps for all teams competing in relay events at carnivals.
