TOMAHAWK BOATING CLUB
ANNUAL MEETING , The annual meeting of the Tomahawk Boating Club was held at the boatshed on Saturday evening. The commodore (Mr C. Hewitt) presided before a good attendance of members. Moving the adoption of the report and balance sheet, the commodore commented on the satisfactory position of the club, but stressed the* necessity for obtaining one or two new rowing boats for the coining season Tin/ election of officers resulted as follows: —Commodore, Mr C. M. Hewitt; vice-commodore, Mr J. A. Winefield: secretary, Mr S. C. Kenna; treasurer, Mr A. Biggs. The commodore then spoke of the pioneering work done for the club by Mr A. Brown (who is retiring from active membership of the club) and Mr G. Dickson, who retired from the position of treasurer, who, he sajd, would always be remembered for his untiring work on behalf of the club. Both were elected life members. It was decided to affiliate with the newlv-formed Model Yacht Association, Mr G. Pistor and Mr J. Thomson being elected as the club's delegates. FIRST RACES. The club held the first of the season races in dull but calm weather, with the wind freshening considerably for the Davies Cup Race and the race for yachts 12ft bin and over. The results were as follows: — 3ft Gin Class (oncn to any design).— Kowdy (J. Thomson) 1. Purity Ada (J. Ken)' 2, Wings (A. Reeves) 3. Seven starters. 4ft Restricted Class.—Bubbles (.1. Kerr) 1, Doris (J. Rapson) 2, Vagabond IJ. Thomson) 3. All boats were on scratch. 'J-' e » starters. Davies Cup Race.—Welcome (C. Hewitt) 1. Vagabond (J. Thomson) 2, June (A. Reeves) 3. All boats were on scratch. Ten starters. Yacht Race (12ft Gin and over).—Kathleen (S. Kenna) 1, Bunyip J. J. Mack) 2. Swastika (G. M'Kay) 3. All boats were on .scratch. This race wan started in fairly" calm' 'weather, which soon chaiiued, and it finished with some smart the line, closclv followed by Kathleen and Bunyip. Kath'leen set a spinnaker, which was changed over when the wind suddenly sprang un f''om the south-west. -Uter rounding the first mark, the Kathleen took the lead and held it for the remainder of the race and extending it by careful handling of the spmaker in the freshening breeze.
