“ The position has got to such a stage that many fanners do not know what to do,” said Mr R. 11. Feisst at a meeting of the Waikato Executive of the Farmers’ Union, when referring _to the acute shortage of farm labour in the Waikato. There were 430 jobs on the books of labour agencies in Hamilton, Cambridge, and Mataniata. The fanners and thenwives and families were employed for unreasonably long hours, but were unable to cope with the work. It was decided to write to the Commissioner of Unemployment, urging him to take action in the matter.
