RACING IN AUSTRALIA

V.R.C. SPRING MEETING NALDA WINS THE OAKS DOMINION. RIDERS PROMINENT (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MELBOURNE, November 7. (Received Nov. 7, at 10 p.m.) The weather was fine, and there was a good attendance for the third day of the Victoria Racing Club’s spring meeting. # Barracker bad a comfortable win in the Flying Handicap. The former New Zealander, Araunah, finished strongly, but Gay Sheila was never dangerous. Beechwood just held off a late challenge from Sir Geraint in the Byron Moore Stakes. The latter ran a great race under his penalty. Martinborongh was a good third, and Prince Quex ran a promising race, but Bold Blood was never dangerous. Voitre’s clever waiting tactics were a contributing factor in Valiant Chief’s win in the Linlithgow Stakes. The colt, hitherto regarded as a poor sticker, won running away. Silver Jubilee had every chance. Synagogue led early, but finished last. /

Gay Circle had a comfortable win in the Carnival Handicap. The placed horses all have New Zealand associations. Gay Sheik and Yilderim were prominent’ early, but knocked up. Gay Circle has had three wins in his last five starts. Nalda, who was pocketed at the home turn, finished brilliantly over the last furlong in the Oaks Stakes to win narrowly from Bimilla, who was Inst in the early stages. Salamander narrowly beat Valsard for third place. Nalda is a stable mate of Feldspar and Marabou, trained by Lou Robertson, who won the Oaks previously with Barbette. It is the first occasion on which one trainer has trained the winner of the Derby, the Cup, and the Oaks in one season. It was Voitre’s fifth win at the meeting.
