TROTTING NOTES

liv Sentinel.

Forbury Park Nominations are due to-day for the Forbury Park Trotting Club'e spring meeting. The Champion's Price Harold Logan was first sold at 20sovs, afterwards built to 25sovs, then at 250sovs. and to his present owner at lOOsova. So says a man who knows, as he claims, all about thuig*.

The Cup Meeting Acceptances for the Cup meeting are due to-morrow. An Improver Golden Mist is a promising pacer, who looks certain to win again before the season is very much older. The Visiting Australians Emilius Way, one of the visiting Australian pacers, has not so far impressed New Zealand enthusiasts, hut many are prepared to see Evicus win at the Addington meeting next week. The Cup Favourite Indianapolis is still the ante-post favourite for the Cup. and is likely to hold the honour until the field is,sent on its way. War Buoy Although War Buoy did not set fire to the track on his appearance at Oamaru, some still hold the opinion that he may create trouble in the Trotting Cup. A Doubt A doubt exists concerning who will hold the lines over Indianapolis in the Trot; ting Cup. M. Holmes, who won with Wrackler, may be in the seat behind the champion. A Long Lapse Local light harness enthusiasts will be pleased to see the nominations for the Forbury Park meeting, as they will help to break a lone period between local fixtures. Nothing has been heard of late of Forbury Park obtaining an extra permit. The Value of a Handicap The Trotting Cup has frequently been a false run race and this enabled Harold Logan to win on' a burst of speed over the final half-mile. Drivers seem to be overwhelmed with the idea that they are facing a two-mile journey and hence lose sight of the importance of making full use of the handicap. The leaders set a slow mile which means that the backmarkers can jog up to a handy position and then speed becomes the deciding factor. This has happened so often thac it is a waste of time to consider the field from a handicap point of view. What will happen this year remains to be seen, but if the race is slow or fast Indianapolis should stil] be on the scene at the finish.
