FLEET OF SUBMARINES
NEAR SAN CRISTOBAL ISLAND VESSELS NOT IDENTIFIED (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) GUAYAQUIL (Ecuador), November 2. (Received Nov. 3, at 10 p.m.) Despatches from Galapagos Islands said that an unindentified fleet of submarines was manoeuvring near San Cristobal Island on Thursday night. The submarines were described as being equipped with electric projectors, and off Barrington Island was a ship of large tonnage, presumably the mother ship. Other despatches from Balboa and the canal zone said that the submarines were not from the United States. It was suggested here that they might be Japanese. The Government of Ecuador is unable to investigate because it lacks an adequate boat.
