WAR PAINT WINS THE CUP (Per United Press Association) THAMES, November 2. The Thames Trotting Club’s annual meeting was held to-day in fine, bright weather, and there was a good attendance. The course was slightly soft as a result of rain during the week. War Paint recorded his third successive win by annexing the Cup, F. J. MEETING FELDSPAR WINS THE DERBY PETER PAN DEFEATED (United Press Association) (By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) MELBOURNE, November 3. (Received Nov. 3, at 8 p.m.) The weather was threatening, but there was an excellent attendance for the V. races on Saturday. Link Divine finished strongly in the Wakeful Stakes. This was his second win in three starts here. The time for the race is a record. Fidelity led always in the Manbyrnong Plate. He has had two starts and two wins, A head wind militated against fast time. Sir Geraint made a game race under his penalty, while Martinborough was never dangerous. Sylvandale led throughout in the Melbourne Stakes. Marabou finished fast from the last of the field. Hall Mark also came on strongly at the finish. Peter Pan had every chance at the second turn, but faded away and beat only Contact in the race for home. It was a disappointing performance. This was Peter Pan s first defeat in six starts at Flemington It was a great Cup trial for Marabou. Feldspar, who was eighth at the halfmile. finished brilliantly in the Derby. Allunga also came home strongly, while Garrio was prominent always. Feldspar and Garrio are both trained by the former New Zealander, L. Robertson. Palfresco was prominent in the last six furlongs and took command at the halfmile. but tired as the result of making up ground so rapidly. Young Idea was beaten when he fell two furlongs from home. Bast Gape was outclassed. Feld spar and Garrio are owned by the breeder, A. T. Creswick, one of Australia’s veteran owners. There was a wonderful finish in the Cantala Stakes, 10 horses disputing the lead 50 yards from home. Hostile was prominent always and just held oft Whittingham. Press Gang, finishing fast, was third. Silver Jubilee, who had every chance, was seventh, and Epigram sixth. Sarcherie greatly enhanced his Cup prospects by a runaway win in the Hotham Handicap. Dick Devon and Oro had every chance. The winner gave the Queensland rider, F. Shean, his first Victorian success. Sporting Blood - finished in great style.
