TAIERI AGRICULTURAL SOCIETY

MONTHLY MEETING There was a good attendance at_ the monthly meeting of the Taieri Agricultural Society. Mr J. B, Blair presided. The Southland and Otago Herd Testing Association advised that the directors had presented a first prize of £1 Is and a second prize of 10s 6d to a number r of associations in Southland and Otago for a class of (1) marked calves, (2) marked yearlings, and. (3) marked two-year-old heifers. It had been loft to the committee to decide which one of the three classes was most suitable to . their show.—lt was decided to accept with thanks, and to select a marked yearling class. Mr J. Pryde wrote agreeing to act as judge for the crossbreds and milkers at the show.—Received. The clerk of the Outram Town Board advised that the board would be prepared to consider leaving water pipes for show use provided the society would make a grant towards their cost. —It was decided to grant £7 10s on condition that the pipes be extended to the centre of the cattle stalls. The tender of the Moraona Pipe Band was 'accepted for music for show day. The tender of Mr A. Souter,- Mosgicl, was received for lining the walls and ceiling of the dining room in the Agricultural Hall. Messrs J. A. Miller and James Dow were appointed to superintend the parking of cars on show day, and Mr A. Walker to engage gatemen. It was decided to engage Messrs R. Mnirhead and Son to repair the yards and stalls. The president offered to provide sheep for the guessing competition. The secretary was empowered to employ labour to cut grass in the cattle and sheep pens and horse stalls. A donation of £1 Is was received from Mr J. M. Rose, president of the Waitahuna Farmers’ Club. The secretary of the New Snowdrift Lime Company offered to make a donation of six tons of lime.—The offer was received with thanks, and it was resolved that it be awarded in the fat stock section. Mr Herbert Price, Dunedin, wrote offering a solid pewter enamelled salver for most points in the draught horse section, animals to be bred by exhibitor, to be won twice in succession or three times at intervals.—Received.
