At 9 o’clock in the evening a fanner who was returning to Greendale from Christchurch recently was surprised to see two stags on the road, a mile from Burnham. Dazzled by the headlights, they made off down the road in front of his car, but after running for a few hundred yards, they leapt over the gorse hedge by the roadside and disappeared. The farmer, when he had recovered from his surprise, hurried home and loaded his rifle. On his return, however, there wa® no sign of the stags.
