PACIFIC AIR SERVICE

AGREEMENT WITH AMERICA BRITISH INTERESTS SAFEGUARDED (Per United Press Association) HANMER SPRINGS, November 1. The agreement which the Dominion has entered into with the United States Aviation Company to permit the landing ot machines in Auckland on the Pacific ser vice safeguards British interests by ensuring reciprocal rights for British Companies. It was stated by the Prime Minis ter (Mr G. W. Forbes), in an election address at Hanmer this evening, that he 6aid he had seen, the reference in the cable news about the uneasiness in British aviation circles over the agreement with the American company, but when a British company was prepared to operate, New Zealand would then ask for recipro cal rights from the United States so that the permission given to American machines to land in the Dominion would be reoiprocated for British machines on American landing grounds when, and if, British interests needed the right. The position was safeguarded in the agree ment with the American authorities.

Mr Forbes said there was going to be a considerable advantage to New Zealand to have an air service from the United States, and also the Imperial Airway service, which would operate under t a joint agreement between Great Britain, Aus tralia, and New Zealand. It was expected that the Imperial service would be opened early in 1937, so that there would be a British service one way and an American the other.
