MANCHESTER UNITY

The fortnightly meeting of Loyal Caversham Lodge, held on Wednesday evening, was well attended, N.G. Bro. H. Croft presiding. A motion of sympathy was carried with the relatives of the late Bro. C. It. Smith, a member of some 25 years' standing. The N.G. extended a welcome to the lodge treasurer, P.G. Bro. H. T. Rmmei'son, who hoc been on the sick list. The question of a United Friendly Societies' dispensary was discussed and, aftei hearing two of the lodge delegates who explained the procedure in connection with prescriptions, it was decided to appoint a small committee to go into the matter and report to a later meeting. Bro. Newman was appointed to the vacant position of guardian, P.D.G.M. Bro. E. Hey later installing him in office. In connection with the annual district meeting, which will be held in the Loyal Cavei;sham Lodge room next year, a committee was set up to work in conjunction with the Social Committee to make arrangements for the functions to be run by the lodge on that occasion. It was decided to hold a ladies' card evening next lodfie night. The Loyal Albion Lodge met on Thursday evening, N.G. Bro. R. Stewart presiding over a good attendance of members. During the meeting sympathetic reference was made to the death of Bro. W. H. Turley, who had been connected with the lodae for 28 years, and members stood in silence as a mark of respect. The Loyal Victoria Lodge (Milton) wrote extending an invitation to attend the lodge anniversary and official visit. The secretary was < instructed to make application to the district to cancel the meeting of the lodge set down for December 2(J. A degree meeting being set down for next lodge night, it was decided to ask the Pa.st Grands' Lodge to conduct it. Three propositions for membership were received. An official visit was later received from the Loyal Dunedin Lodge, some 25 members of the latter lodge being welcomed by the N.G. Bro. J. Lees, N.G. of the visiting lodge, responded on behalf of Dunedin. Among the visiting brethren was a very old member of the Dunedin Lodge, Bro. Steedman now on a holiday visit from Hastings. A card match was played between the two lodges. The visitors proved victorious by 31 games to 23. The fortnightly meeting of the Loyal Princess Marv Lodge was held on Tuesday evening, N.G. Sister C. Lunam in the chair. A letter was received from the Loyal Victoria Ladies' Lodge inviting members to attend the anniversary of the latter lodge. A challenge to play a cricket match with the Loyal Hand and Heart Lodge was accepted. The meeting adjourned at an early hour, the occasion being the tenth anniversary of the lodge. Members and visitors were entertained at supper. The visitors' toast was acknowledged by Loyal Centenary and Caversharo Lodges.
