VITAL STATISTICS
The vital statistics for the borough of Port Chalmers for October are as follows:—Births 5, deaths 2, marriage 1. The figures for October last year were:— Births 3, deaths 3, marriage I. RAINFALL IN OCTOBER The rainfall in the Port Chalmers district in October was 2.87 in. Rain fell on 12 days, the heaviest fall being .75in on October 23. The rainfall in October last year was 1.82 in, there being 12 wet days. UNEMPLOYMENT COMMITTEE A meeting of the Port Chalmers Unemployment Committee was held on Thursday afternoon. Mr A. Campbell presiding. The chairman referred to the death of Mr W. Lunn, one of the first members of the committee. It was reported that the names of 158 men appeared on the local unemployed list. MUSSEL BAY DRAINAGE The 42in sewer through the reclaimed area at Mussel Bay. the laying of which was commenced in February last, is now near completion. The last pipe was laid yesterday afternoon. The linking up of several small branch sewers will now be carried into effect. The work on the stone wall across Mussel Bay. which divides the reclaimed area from the sea, is also almost completed. The wall has been built to a height well above high-water mark, and is a very solid structure.
