SITUATION IN SAMOA
A GREAT IMPROVEMENT STATEMENT AT GENEVA „ GENEVA, October 30. Sir James Parr gave an account of Samoa to the Mandates Commission. He said 11 white and 36 native police were preserving order for 50,000 people—a great improvement upon former troublous conditions. Certain temporary political agitation was recently revived, which, in tlje opinion of the Government, related to-the impending elections. The Administration believed that any dissatisfaction was inspired from" only one quarter. The .general situation was improving. Trade in 1934 declined about 31 per cent., but improved to a marked degree in the first three months of 1935. Prices were rising, especially for copra and bananas. Health and sanitation were improving, and the work of the Samoan teachers and medical staff was entirely satisfactory.
