THE COMPETITIONS SOCIETY'S ARIA CONTEST

TO THE EDITOR. g lK) —Having noticed that an aria competition is to be held in Dunedin, may I, as an old resident of your city, suggest that an overseas judge be appointed for this contest, preferably one who has not judged in New Zealand. This class will be a large one, and 1 do not question the ability of the judges appointed. But if the appointment of an overseas judge should be beyond the Competitions Society's resources, may I suggest that other judges be appointed from both islands to act in conjunction with the selected judges. Many would-be competitors would prefer an overseas judge. Jn the recent Wellington festival several very fine operatic singers were debarred from competing in consequence of an age limit. Let there be no age limit. Ladies especially are very sensitive over their age, so why let this intrude in competitions —an artist is an artist whatever the age.—l am, etc., Old Duxedinite.
