Mr H. E. Moller travelled by yesterday's express from Dunedin to Waimate. Mr James Fletcher left Dunedin by yesterday's express for the north, on his return to Auckland. Sir Charles Statham will arrive iu Dunedin on Tuesdav afternoon from Wellington. Mr L. J. Stevens, who has been on a business visit to Dunedin, was a passenger by yesterday's express for the north, on his return to Auckland. Mr N. Blair, of the Dunedin railways staff, was a passenger by yesterday's express for the north, en route to Wellington and Auckland. Advice has been received that Dr Brian Dunne, formerly of Dunedin, has been appointed superintendent of the Dreadnought Hospital, Greenwich (London). Mr R. Girling Butcher, Government inspector of New Zealand fire brigades, is visiting Dunedin. He is on a tour of inspection of brigades in the Otago and Southland districts. As a mark of appreciation of the services he had rendered as registrar over a long period of years, Mr W. J. Paton was presented with a travelling rug at tht> quarterly social held by the Otago Justices of the Peace Association last night. Making the presentation. Mr I. M'Farlane (president) referred to Mr Paton's work as registrar in the early days of the association, and to the services he had rendered in building up its membership. Mr Sutherland (past-president j endorsed the president's remarks, and Mr Paton suitably replied. Mr H. Halstead, who is attached to th" Department of External Affairs, has been appointed to a commission in the Royal British Guiana Constabulary, and wi'l leave New Zealand by the Rangitiki on November 19. A Press Association message from Wellington says that the appointment, which is of a purely military nature, is made by the Colonial Office following a recommendation by the New Zealand Selection Board over which tho Governor-General presides at Government House.
