CHURCH BAZAARS

MUSSELBURGH PRESBYTERIANS In a special effort to raise funds to reduce the debt on its property, the Musselburgh Presbyterian Church opened a bazaar and sale of work yesterday afternoon in the St. Kilda Coronation Hall. Thero was every promise that the effort will meet with success, judging by the large attendance at the afternoon and evening sessions. Patrons had a wide variety of goods to choose from, the various stalls carrying attractive displays of flowers, works of art, books, cakes, sweets, fancy work, produce, and woodwork novelties made and supplied* by members of the Boys' Brigade. The bazaar was opened by the Mayor of St. Kilda (Mr H. H. Leary), who complimented the lady members of the church on their effort in making such a fine display, and said it was hoped the sale of work would meet with the success it deserved. The stalls are in charge of the following:—Works, Mrs G. Greig; arts, Miss E." Morrison; cakes, Mrs W. Brown; dainty dish, Mrs T. Shaw; sweets, Mrs Steele; book, Miss D. Lishner; produce, Mr W. Caldow and Mr A. Mitchell; flower, Miss J. Mackersey; soft drinks, Miss M. Kane; dips, Mr S. Welham and members of the Boys' Brigade; Christmas tree, Mr J. Harris; tea rooms, Miss J. Mitchell; amusements. Sergeantmajor Johnston. In addition to the goods displayed on the stalls there were competitions and various forms of amusements to claim the attention of patrons. These were well patronised. At the evening session an enjoyable entertainment was given by Miss Lily Stevens's pupils. The bazaar "will be continued tin's afternoon, when the feature will be an entertainment by a number of Miss Anita Winkel's pupils. ST. MARY'S SALE The annual sale of work of St. Mary's Church, Mornington, was opened yesterday, and there was a good attendance throughout the afternoon and evening. The many stalls were well stocked with attractive goods, which commanded a ready sale, "and excellent business was done. During the evening an entertainment was provided by a party of children under the direction of Mrs Brady. A short play, entitled " The Snowflakes," was presented very successfully, every member of the cast showing evidence of careful training and not a little ability. The bazaar will be open again this afternoon and evening, when a varied programme will bo presented, the main feature being a ballet under the direction of Mr Mervyn Greenall. The following is a list of the stallholders: —Guild stall—Mesdames Birt, Fisher, and Greenall; fancy stall, Mrs Mills and Miss Clarke; produce stall — Mesdames Alfred and Bertrand DigbySmith, Tombs, and Guy; house of toys, Mesdames Whitticase and H. Smith; dips, Misses Nancy Fisher and Joy Ferens; sweets stall, Bible class girls; flower stall —Mesdames Barton and M'Goun, Miss Cartwright; tea rooms— Mesdames Gardner, Hurley, Skinner. and Wcbley; men's stall, the vicar and vestrymen; kindling and books, choir boys; Aunt Sally, the vestrymen.
