PHOTOGRAPHIC EXHIBITION

THE EMPIRE FROM THE -AIR An extensive exhibition of photographs, presented under the title of "Flying over the Empire," which has been shown in Wellington and Auckland, is about to be displayed in Dunedin. The exhibition attracted so much interest in Auckland that the period had to be extended, mainly owing to the requests from secondary schools for the arrangement of conducted parties of pupils, who derived great advantage from a systematic inspection of the photographs, which illustrate outstanding scenic and geographical features on the routes of Imperial Airways from London to Australia and also from Cairo to Capetown. The Times infra-red photographs and the series of illustrations of famous places in the Holy Land are particularly well selected, and most impressive of all are the photographs of powerful 173-ton air liners. They are a revelation of the perfection of modern photographic enlarging. In addition to the photographs, there are a number of illuminated models of different types of aircraft used in operating the Imperial Airways services, which have a route distance of over 20,000 miles and an aggregate annual flying distance of 5,000,000 miles, equal to about nine round trips to the moon. The photographs and illuminated models will be on exhibition in the Somerset Lounge, Savoy Buildings, and will be on view from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily, and till 9 p.m. on Fridays. A notice containing further details appears in this issue.
