FIRE AT ASHBURN HALL
LAUNDRY DESTROYED Fire completely gutted the large wooden detached laundry at Ashburn Hall shortly before 7 a.m. on Saturday. The heating apparatus, drying racks and linen lockers were destroyed. There was no danger of the outbreak spreading to the main buildings, as these are located a considerable distance from the - scene of the fire. The laundry was burning fiercely when discovered by a milkman. The superintendent of Ashburn Hall (Dr A. R. Falconer) was notified, and in response to his call a machine from the Central Station and another from Roslyn were quickly in attendance. When the brigade arrived the laundry was burning from end to end, but the outbreak was quickly brought under control.
The cause of the fire is not known, but it is thought that it originated from the boiler furnace.
