YACHT’S LONG CRUISE

FLORIDA TO AUCKLAND A CREW OF TWO (Per United Press Association) AUCKLAND, October 27. After an 18 months’ voyage from Jacksonville (Florida) the 37ft sloop-rigged yacht Igdrasil reached Auckland on Saturday with a crew of two —the owner, Mr Roger S. Strout, and his wife. Built by Mr Strout himself specially for cruising, the Igdrasil is a sturdy little craft and is unusually roomy and comfortable below. In spite of her long voyage she came into port spotlessly clean and tidy. | After leaving Florida and passing ( through the Panama canal the yacht j cruised in leisurely fashion among the Pacific islands, visiting the Galapagos Islands, Tahiti and the Marquesas and Fiji groups. Leaving Levuka on August 14 she spent some time among the islands to the east, calling at Ngau Moala and Matuku, whence she sailed on October 8 for Auckland. “ From what we could see of Hauraki Gulf between the squalls on the way up we formed the opinion that it must be one of the finest cruising grounds anywhere for small craft,” said Mr Strout. The Igdrasil has on board five tortoises from the Galapagos Islands which It is hoped to dispose of to the zoo. The yacht will be fitted with] a new suit of sails at Auckland, and it is possible her rig will be changed. Later sic will proceed to the South Island to visit the sounds. Her subsequent movements are uncertain.
