SALVATION ARMY CONFERENCE
The Salvation Army authorities are making a new endeavour to improve and develop the band work, and the first South Island conference associated with that programme has been arranged to take place at Dunedin during Labour weekend. Bands will be participating from as far north as Christchurch and as far south as, Invercargill, and it is anticipated that about 200 bandsmen will be present. In addition to a number of conference sessions it has been arranged that the public shall have the opportunity of hearing the various bands and participating with them in Salvation Army progi amines and meetings. These will not only take place in the city but will include the main" suburbs. Colonel Orsborn, the chief secretary of the Salvation Army in New Zealand. will be the leader of the conference and will be supported by Lieutenantcolonel and Mrs Burton with divisional headquarters staff. The proceedings will be opened at the Early Settlers’ Hall, when the visitors will take tea together. This will be followed by the first session of the conference. At 6.30 p.m. bands will parade from various central points in the city, and a grand festival of music will take place at the Dowling Street Fortress, commencing at 7.30 p.m. The Army’s many friends will doubtless take this opportunity of participating in the event.
