OBITUARY

LORD MORRIS LONDON, October 24. Lord Morris, Prime Minister of Newfoundland from 1908 to 1918, and a member of the British War Cabinet, died in London to-day, aged 77 years. Lord Edward Patrick Morris had a long and distinguished political career in Newfoundland, and represented that, colony at many important international conferences. MR S. J. MONKS CHRISTCHURCH, October 25. Advice of the death in London of Mr S. J. Monks, chief secretary to the Royal Life Saving Society, has been received in Christchurch. Mr Monks was prominently connected with life saving from the inception of the movement, and he and Mr William Henry, the founder, were chiefly responsible for its success.
