POSTAL CLERK'S THEFTS
ADMITTED TO PROBATION (Per United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, October 24. William Baker, a former postal employee, who appeared for sentence in the Supreme Court before Mr Justice Northcroft this morning on six charges of theft as a clerk, was admitted to probation for two years. Counsel said Baker, who was in poor health, bad been in the grip of moneylenders, and his position became desperate. The judge said he did not propose to add to Baker’s troubles by sending him to prison.
