MEAN OFFENCES
SISTER AND ANOTHER WOMAN ROBBED TWO YEARS’ IMPRISONMENT. (Peb United Press Association) CHRISTCHURCH, October 24. Hugh Frances Haughey, who pleaded guilty to the theft of money, was sentenced to two years’ imprisonment with hard labour by Mr Justice Northcroft io-day. “ This offence is particularly serious, for not only did you rob your sister, but you induced a young -woman who trusted you to lend you money,” said the judge. “ Worse still, not only did you not pay her back with the money for which the crime was committed, but you absconded with all the money, leaving her to bear the fruits of the trouble in which you left her.”
