TROTTING NOTES

« By Sentinel.

Nomination* Nominations close to-day for the Metropolitan Trotting Club's meeting. At Ashburton The Ashburton Trotting Cup will carry a stake.of oOOsovs for a 4.27 class. At Auckland The Auckland Trotting Cup will carry a stake-of 750sovs for a 4.30 class. Chancellor Chancellor has improved since he was last seen in public, and may be found shaping well at Oamaru. Homeward Homeward won at the Grand National meeting in 2min 9 4-ssec, and is on a 2min 12sec mark at Oamaru. As a good beginner Homeward should go well on a turning track. Ready to Rac« Graham Direct did a strong work-out at Addington on Tuesday by stepping over two miles in 4min 31sec. He came over the final half-mile in lmin 2sec, and showed that he is fit and ready to race. Doing Well According to reports, the Tasmanian horses Evicus and Emilius Way did not fill up a great deal on the voyage from Australia, as their track work at Addington has created the impression of both being fit and well. Still what happens at Oamaru may be found improving them for Addington. A Strong Card The Oamaru Trotting Club will be able to provide its patrons with a most attractive card for the meeting on Labour Day. The day's racing will carry far more than usual interest because several of the horses engaged are also booked to race against the strong opposition to be found at the Addington spring meeting. A Rich Relation Thelma Wrack has produced a brother to Moana Tama. Thelma Wrack was got by Wrack from Joy Bells, by Cathedral Chimes—Marie Lloyd, by Petereta— Marie Corelli, by Wildwood —Thelma, by Kentucky. Thelma is one of the • gems of the Stud Book, and amongst her toals are Willow Wood, Wildwood Junior, Authoress, Adonis, Waverley, Cameos, and others of lesser note, and it is seldom a matron has so well enriched the track and the stud as the daughter of Kentucky. Pacer v. Cyclist The Australian pacer Auburn Lad, 2min 2 2-ssec, has been matched against a cyclist named Joe Parmley, who is the holder of the cycling record for 25 miles in Australia. Auburn Lad and Parmley will meet in a dash over one mile at Melbourne. W. M'Kay has Auburn Lad right back to his best form, and a lot of interest is being taken in the match by trotting enthusiasts and cyclists. Pegaway The pacer Pegaway has been acquired by Mr E. G. Bridgens, of Auckland, and lest week he joined F. J. Smith's stable at Takanini. When previously trained by Smith, Pegaway won several good races, but last season failed to reach the winning list, most of his racing being done in the South Island. As a result of his failures, Pegaway is now assessed at 2min ]2 sec, 2min 45sec, and 4min 29sec, and if he returns to his best form Mr Bridgens will consider taking him to Perth tor the championships in February. Graham Direct Tremendous interest will be taken in the Oamaru Jubilee Handicap, for which Graham Direct deserves to be favourite. He did 4min 21 2-ssee through a field of horses in the Islington Handicap in August, so off the limit of 4min olsec he should take a power of beating. Graham Direct has been well eared for since then (says an exchange), and' he will strip in excellent order for his Oamaru assignment, in which he will nieet the Australian horse Emilius Way. Judged on his performances in the Commonwealth, Emilius Way is a high-class pacer, and a real stayer. He will find Graham Direct a very hard nut to crack.
