COMBINED OPENING. The Port Chalmers Yacht and Motor Boat Club advised that all arrangements were being made for the combined club opening to be held at Port Chalmers on November 2. SANDERS CUP TRIALS. Replies were received from the owners and skippers of eight boats stating that they were prepared to compete in the trial races to be sailed to select the Otago challenger for the Sanders Cup. Arrangements were completed for the first trial to be held on Saturday afternoon. CORNWELL CUP TRIALS. The question of holding one of the Cornwell Cup trials in the lower harbour was raised. Mr Watson said that, while a trial race would detract from the opening, it would be as well to hold a race over the Port Chalmers Club's course later. Such a trial would give the crew experience in tidal, sailing, which would be beneficial to them when they sailed in the Cornwell Cup contest at Auckland in January. The chairman said it would be wise to hold a trial at Port Chalmers, but that wag a matter for the Sailing Committee to decide. CORNWELL CUP CREW. It was decided that the Otago Cornwell Cup crew be allowed to compete in the race for the " idle along" cla_ss, at Wellington, should it so desire, on the return journey from the Auckland contest. MUSSEL BAY CLUB. A letter was received from the newlyformed Mussel Bay Aquatic Club supplying a list of office-bearers and applying for affiliation to the association. The chairman said that, as,the question of affiliation had been held over from the previous meeting, it would be wise for the delegates io deal with that matter first. He therefore put the question to •the vote, and the request of' the club for affiliation was lost, five voting for and six against the proposal. PORTOBELLO CLUB. A letter was received from the secretary of the new Portobello Club stating that strong exception had been taken to certain remarks made at a recent meeting of the association with reference to the club. It was pointed out that it was desirable that personal matters be omitted from association meetings. The secretary forwarded the club's affiliation secretary stated that the craft registered with the club consisted of five launches, four outboard motor boats, and four wailing boats. The chairman said it was a pity certain remarks had appeared in the press, but this could not be rectified now. He moved that the letter be received. This was agreed to. SANDERS CUP BOATS. The Auckland Yacht and Motor Boat Association wrote stating that it was understood that the craft to be eligible for the 1936 Sanderc* Cup contest were: Those boats previously eligible for the contest, and the Auckland boat Aileen (if selected). 'Che Auckland Association understood that the 1936 and future Sanders Cup contests would be held on the basis of purely conference control, and that the 1930 conference would consider the class of boat to be eligible for future contests. The Auckland Association desired to reserve the right to consider such proposals prior to the conference. It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the Otago delegate to the New Zealand ( Yachting Council. The Auckland Association also advised that as the southern associations had agreed that the next Sanders Cup contest be held at Auckland about the time of the Auckland anniversary regatta, it was suggested that the date of the first race should be January 28, as this was the most convenient day of the week to commence when travelling arrangements were considered. It was also decided that this matter be left in the hands of Mr Martin A committee consisting of Messrs B. H. Nees, C. Smith, and G. A. Wiseman, was appointed to discuss the type of boat and restrictions to be recommended for future Sanders Cup contests. It was pointed out by Mr Martin and several other delegates that the restricted class of Sanders Cup boat had proved unsatisfactory. NEW ZEALAND-MADE SAILS. A letter was received from the secretary of the Canterbury Sailing and Power Boat Association bating that attention had been drawn to the price of New Zealand-made sails. As English sails could probably be imported at less cost, Iho Canterbury Association asked the Otago Association to discuss the question of allowing English sails to be used in Sanders Cup contests. It was suggested that the matter be considered by delegates at the Sanders Cut) conference to be held at Auckland in January. It was decided that Ihe question be referred to the Auckland conference. YACHTING COUNCIL. Reference was made to the excellent work carried out by Mr G. K. Curtis as president of the New Zealand Yachting Council. The chairman said it wits to be icgretted that Mr Curtis had decided to retire from the position, and it was the wish of the Otago Association that lie be asked to retain office. It was decided to write and ask Mr Curtis to retaain his position until the annual conference to be held at Auckland in January.
