OUTLOOK FOR SHIPPING

A FURTHER IMPROVEMENT LONDON, October 21. Lloyd's List records a further improvement in many sections of the homeward chartering markets. Although shippers have raised their offers they have been unable to get the required tonnage. The recovery is more satisfactory in view of the steady decline in the number of ships laid up in British ports, which, according to the Chamber of Statistics on October 1, were 224, of a total tonnage of 502,462, compared with 323, totalling 878,416 tons at the beginning of the year. FEWER IDLE SHIPS (British Official Wireless) RUGBY, October 21. Compared with the totals for July 1 these figures show a decrease of 85,528 tons, and compared with the figures for October, 1934, a decrease of 325,568 is shown.
