DUNEDIN FANCIERS' CLUB

ANNUAL MEETING The annual meeting of the Dunedin Fanciers' Club was held in the Y.M.G.A. last evening, Mr T. A. Brown presiding over a good attendance of members. The chairman congratulated the members for turning up in such large numbers. It was many years since an annual meeting had been so largely attended, and he" considered it to be an excellent augury for the success of the club during the forthcoming season. ADOPTION OF REPORT. The chairman, moving the adoption of the annual report and balance sheet, said that the club had been going back for a lumber of years, and had this year come out on the debit side to the extent ot ever £4O, which was a big item tor any club. It therefore behoved members to put their shoulders to the wheel and do their utmost to out the club back on a sound basis. There had been friction among the members in the past, which had materially contributed towards the club's present position, but there was no reason whv the affairs of the club could not be carried on harmoniously in the future. , , The report and balance sheet were adopted. KENNEL CLUB DISPUTE The breaking away of the Otago Kennel Club from the Dunedin Fanciers Club was referred to by the chairman, who said that the permit to hold shows which had been granted to the Kennel Club by the New Zealand Kennel Club was contrary to the latter body's rules, which did not peimit of two dog clubs in one town. L'he Fanciers' Club had therefore decided to send a deputation to the New Zealand Kennel Club Conference in Christchurch next month to try and fight its case against the Otago Kennel Club. He was of the opinion that the Fanciers' Club would win the case, ae the New Zealand Kennel Club should realise that a club that had stood by it for 40 years was worthy of a favourable hearing. Mr A. Fraser said that although he had the Fanciers' Club's interest at heart he was convinced it had little hope of preventing the Otago Kennel Club b affiliation to the Nsw Zealand body, and he felt that any antagonism to the Kennel Club at the conference would be unwise. The cause of the whole question lay ;n the relative amount of support given to each of the clubs in Dunedin by dog fanciers. The chairman mantained, somewhat vigorously, that the question was one of sportsmanship and fair play, which had not been shown by the original members of the dog section of the Fanciers Club when they had broken away and formed the Kennel Club. Mr Fraser repeated that an unbiased view should be taken of the position. At present there were two championship shows for dogs in Dunedin, and breeders in the north would not allow dogs <o win two champions-hips in one year in the same town. U.o suggested that if the New Zealand Kennel Club refused to allow the Fanciera' Club to hold a championship show for dogs, permission should be sought to bald a non-championship parade. Mr T. M'Lean asked if it would not be possible for a strong deputation from the Fanciers' Club to wait on the Otago Kennel Club and ascertain if the differences between the two bodies could be overcome. A motion on tho lines suggested by Mr M'Lean was carried, the deputation to consist of the president and secretary, and Messrs T. M'Lean, J. A. Morris, H. William, and T. Eaton.
