Misses Wade and Anderson and Mrs Walker and Miss Kay meet to-morrow morning in the semi-finals over 18 holes. The weather at Herctaunga was dull and windy. Miss Kay's win was the first yet by a New Zealander against a British player. Miss Kay was hitting a long ball, and playing well throughout. Sometimes the gallerj numbered as many as 700. Miss Kay took the next in 3 to 4, and remained 1 up to the eighteenth, which Miss Barton secured by virtue of a beautiful 40 yards approach. The nineteenth was halved in 4 Miss Kay sinking a 20-foot putt. When Miss Kay was 15 feet short of the green at the twentieth Miss Barton had a chance, but failed to get her niblick shot out of the long grass. Greater accuracy and steadiness of play were the main factots accounting for the defeat of Miss P. Helean (Wanganui) by Miss J. Anderson, the young Scottish player. Miss Helean played some excellent holes, but she was slicing badly with her tee shots. Miss Anderson stood 2 up at the ninth and went on to win, 4 up and 2 to play. Both Mrs Greenlees and Miss Wade played brilliant and steady golf. Mrs Greenlees fought hard, and but for one or two strokes of misfortune would have been more successful. In this match, too, the winner turned 2 up. Miss Wade took the thirteenth in 5 to 6 and the fourteenth 3 to 4, Mrs Greenlees taking the fifteenth in 3 to 4. Miss Wade eventually won 3 and 2. The winner usually outdrove -her opponent and went out in 37. Mrs Walker had no difficulty in beating Miss Fleming, who was a little off her game. The New Zealander began with 5 and 6, and, although she steadied down considerably, Mrs Walker was too consistent for her. (Pek United I'ukss Association) WELLINGTON, October 22. " You have some very promising players in New Zealand," said Mrs P. Hodson, captain of the touring British team, discussing the New Zealand tour, " but you should lengthen your courses or they will never really improve their game. You must lengthen' many of your holes so that it takes two full wood shots to get on most of them. That, I think, is where our players have the advantage. They are used >.o playing long shots to the greens and yours are not. There are too many holes in New Zealand that need only a mashie second."
